Fat Boy’s Pizza was founded in 2018 by Gabe and Karen Corchiani. The flagship location in Metairie, Louisiana opened with great fanfare as the opening night crowd wrapped around the building following months of build up. The large-slice concept, which Gabe and Karen discovered during their frequent trips to Gabe’s native Miami, was missing in the New Orleans area. Mix in Gabe’s love of sports (he was a college basketball standout at the University of New Orleans) and the Corchiani duo created what many would consider the perfect pizza place. LSU and Saints memorabilia dot the walls, and numerous large-screen TVs mix the big games with Fat Boy’s big slices. Gabe and Karen also wanted a spot that stayed open late and provided youth sports teams a place to go after their games. In conjunction with frequent “Give Back” events, local teams and parents have found a friend — and home — at Fat Boy’s.

Gabe’s philosophy of “go big or go home” came into play just a few months after opening when Fat Boy’s hosted the first “Pizza Eating Championship,” an event sanctioned by Major League Eating. Some of the world’s top eaters showed up for the first event of its kind. The top-ranked competitive eater in the world, Joey Chestnut, was joined by several other top 10 eaters as he took first place by downing nearly seven of Fat Boy’s trademark 2-foot slices in 10 minutes. The event received local and national attention, including recognition on the ESPN SportsCenter Top 10. Chestnut holds the Fat Boy’s 2-Foot Challenge record as well (one two foot slice in seven minutes or less) with a time of 42 seconds. Fat Boy’s has also hosted “The Point After” on WWL Radio, the New Orleans Saints postgame show.

Fat Boy’s Pizza has displayed a strong commitment to the community since it opened, so when the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March of 2020 the restaurant’s staff jumped into action. Fat Boy’s had recently added a pizza truck to its arsenal and quickly set up shop outside of local hospitals to feed frontline healthcare workers for months. Fat Boy’s also delivered thousands of donated pizzas to those fighting the pandemic.

As Fat Boy’s Pizza grows, it will always remain that humble pizza joint that filled a neighborhood void in 2018. Each community Fat Boy’s enters will be rewarded with great pizza, exceptional service and a community partner that will always give back.

  • Average Household Incomes for neighborhood areas need to be above 90k within a two-mile radius.  At least 50,000 people in a three-mile radius.
